Beijing-based American journalist Alison Klayman directs this feature-length documentary about the life and work of Chinese contemporary artist and political activist Ai Weiwei. The film begins in 2009 as Weiwei starts to lay the groundwork for the art installation that is to become Sunflower Seeds at London's Tate Modern and becomes increasingly involved in a political campaign to challenge the Chinese government over its response to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
