Two BBC television adaptations of the plays by Oscar Wilde. 'An Ideal Husband' (1969) sees the eminent Sir Robert Chiltern (Keith Michell) blackmailed by Mrs Cheveley (Margaret Leighton), accused of exploiting government secrets for his own gain early in his political career. Chiltern turns to his friend Viscount Goring (Jeremy Brett), an experienced man of the world, for help, and before long Goring is involved in a web of lies and deceit. In 'Lady Windermere's Fan' (1985), the society hostess (played by Helena Little) begins to suspect that her husband, Lord Windermere (Tim Woodward) is being unfaithful to her with the mysterious Mrs Erlynne (Stephanie Turner). Rashly deciding that the marriage is over, Lady Windermere is shocked by an act of generosity on Mrs Erlynne's part that protects her reputation.
