Collection of four made-for-TV movies following the heroine of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's novels. In 'Anne of Green Gables' (1985) young orphan Anne Shirley (Megan Fellows) is adopted by bachelor farmer Matthew Cuthbert (Richard Farnsworth) and his sister, Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst). She endures many struggles as she makes the progression from adolescence to womanhood. In 'Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel' (1987) Anne is now 18 and teaching at Green Gables. When a position becomes available in Kingsport, she has to decide whether or not to leave her hometown. In 'Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story' (2000) Anne has only recently returned to Avonlea when her fiancé, Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie), is offered a position at a hospital in New York and persuades her to move with him. The couple are unhappy in the metropolis, however, and make their way back to Prince Edward Island. The advent of war sees Gilbert enlisting as a medical officer, and when he is reported missing in action Anne braves the warfields of Europe to search for him. Finally, in 'Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning' (2008) Anne (Barbara Hershey), now a successful middle-aged playwright, is struggling with recent events in her life. When she decides to sell Green Gables, she discovers a letter from her father beneath the floorboards. This leads Anne to recall her life before she was adopted and came to live at Green Gables. Shirley MacLaine co-stars.
