Description

Guilty Gear fans have known for years that the highly technical beat-'em-up series is something special. It is famous, however, for hiding the things that make it great beneath layers of complexity that can be daunting for those not already neck-deep in the franchise. With Guilty Gear Strive, though, developer Arc System Works is finally ready to guide newcomers through those layers of complexity and show them what makes these games great without dumbing things down a jot. Combo masters will still do well in Strive, but there are shorter chains available to help the uninitiated find their way in. Every blow packs a punch, with counter blows, in particular, really making your bones rattle. The roster of characters is as deep as ever, with each offering a different play style and attitude. The world is a weird jumble of superhumans, robots with dead peoples' souls inside them, demons and flying ships. Marvel fans will probably be right at home. It helps that the whole thing is wrapped in a super slick 2.5D anime-influenced art style. Some critics are, in fact, calling it the best anime-style beat-'em-up they've ever seen. If you've been looking for a way in to this iconic beat-'em-up series, Guilty Gear Strive is it.
