The cover photo of this year's annual is of Wayde van Niekerk, the man who broke Michael Johnson's 400m world record with a time of 43.03 seconds at the Rio Olympic Games when running in the outside lane. The 24-year-old South African was one of the favourites, having taken gold at the Beijing World Championships the year before.
