Double bill of erotic dramas. 'Belle De Jour' (1967) is Luis Bunuel's classic surrealist drama about a bored doctor's wife, Severine (Catherine Deneuve), who hears of a brothel operating near her home. Struck by a sudden desire, she goes to the brothel and offers her services in the afternoons. She encounters a wide range of characters, eventually running into a friend of her husband. 'Belle Toujours' (2006) is Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira's response to the Luis Bunuel classic. His tribute-cum-sequel revives two of the central characters from the original film: Severine (Bulle Ogier) and Henri Husson (Michel Piccoli). When Henri Husson meets the widowed Severine at a concert one night, she does her utmost to avoid him, but he follows her and - intent on revenge - forces her to face the dark secrets of her past.
