Ira Wohl, a film-maker and erstwhile playwright, spent the years between 1976 and 1979 recording the changes in the life of his cousin Philly. Philly was preparing to move away from home for the first time. Not unusual perhaps, except that Philly was 52-years old with a mental age in single figures. This documentary won an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary and the D.W. Griffith Award for 'the most human and moving film of the year'.
