Documentary about a gay man beaten to death in Reims by skinheads and the aftermath of his brutal murder. 29-year-old Francois Chenu was confronted by homophobic rightist thugs in the park near his home. Refusing to deny his sexuality, he was beaten to within an inch of his life and thrown, still alive, into a pond in which he drowned. The film concentrates not on the hatred and ugliness that caused this terrible crime but on tolerance and forgiveness, following his family through the court proceedings and listening to their recollections of the time. We hear Francois' sister recount off-camera how she came to believe a murder victim noted in the newspaper was her brother. Her quiet voice tells about her trip from Paris to identify the body and her difficulty in telling her parents. The film wrings a message of hope and understanding from a mess of needless hatred and ignorance.
