Sunday, January 30, 1972: 13 civil rights marchers were shot dead and another 13 wounded when British soldiers opened fire during a march in Derry, Northern Ireland. The original 1972 inquiry exonerated the British; but after many years of protest by families of the victims, a second inquiry was begun in March 2000. This Saville Inquiry has heard evidence from over one thousand witnesses.
