Description

WARNING: This is not the actual book Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Do not buy this reading Sidekick if you are looking for a full copy of this great book. Let the chapter-by-chapter analysis in this sidekick for Dark Places help you understand Gillian Flynn's storytelling style, the book's major themes, and of course, the book's characters themselves. Who really killed Libby's mother and both of her sisters, and why? Dark Places unravels the mystery slowly, alternating between Libby's present-day investigation and the narration by her mother and brother of the events leading up to the gruesome murders. Gillian Flynn's second novel, Dark Places, follows in the vein of her first, Sharp Objects, as a gritty, dark thriller. Twenty-five years after the murder of her mother and two sisters, Libby Day still has not moved on from the events that shocked her hometown in rural Kansas. When she realizes the money other people have contributed is running low, she becomes involved with the Kill Club, a fan club obsessed with the Day family murders. They believe Libby's brother, who has spent the past 25 years in prison for the murders, may be innocent. This sends Libby on an intriguing quest to uncover the truth. Telling the tale from multiple perspectives, Flynn explores life in rural America, in a small town rife with poverty, misery, and secrets. Flynn's use of prose is compelling, and her characters are realistic, though at times unlikeable. Dark Places is a dark novel that may not be to everyone's taste, but it offers an intriguing premise heavily influenced by the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s and works such as Truman Capote's In Cold Blood.
