Feature-length documentary following the turbulent creation of one of the most ambitious feats of modern theatre. The film investigates the 12-hour recreation of the Epic Cycle, the sprawling Greek creation story that spawned all of Greek mythology. The production, which premiered at the Denver Centre for the Performing Arts in November 2000, became the battleground of a monumental struggle between two theatre heavyweights: writer John Barton and director Sir Peter Hall. The two men, who had been close friends since founding the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1961, left the production of Tantalus as bitter enemies.
