A collection of documentaries exploring the history of Britain's railways and the development of the rail industry. 'Britain's Railways - Then and Now: GWR' focuses on the Great Western Railway. The programme features lines such as the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway and takes a look at various locomotives including the 4079 Pendennis Castle, the 6000 King George V and the Eurostar. 'Britain's Railways - Then and Now: Southern Railway' looks at how the Southern Railway was affected by the movement from steam engines to electrical railways and features Bulleids, Maunsell U Class Moguls, Standard Class 4s and 5s and many more. 'Britain's Railways - Then and Now: LMS' examines how the London Midland and Scottish Railway was affected by developments in the industry and features various locomotives such as the Stanier Class 8F and the Stanier Class 5 AKA the Black Five. 'Britain's Railways - Then and Now: LNER' focuses on the London and North Eastern Railway and features steam and electric engines such as the 70001 Lord Hurcomb, the 70007 Coeur de Lion and the British Rail Classes 315 and 322. 'Britain's Railways - Then and Now: British Railways' looks at the movement from steam to electrical powered trains and the decrease in the use of rail transport, paying particular attention to British Railways and the Woodhead Route, the Metropolitan Line, the Somerset and Dorset Railway and the locomotives that were used for coal mining in South Wales.
