The history of LEGO from its early days making yo-yos and other wooden toys (which continued until the 1960s), a record of its toys, including the famous building bricks and Duplo and how it's adapted to the changing toy market e.g. bringing in licensed products such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. The book will also include LEGO world records, the LEGOLAND theme parks and their development, including how they commemorate world events such as President Obama's inauguration was anticipated with an impressive LEGO display. In more recent times, James May built a LEGO house, complete with flushing LEGO toilet and people have sailed in homemade LEGO boats. This fascinating book contains lots of LEGO facts including how wooden yo-yo discs were turned I to truck wheels when the yo-yo craze died, how many bricks were used in LEGOLAND's Mount Rushmore and the meaning of LEGO - 'play well' and 'I put together'. The book ends with a chapter full of practical tips and designs for making objects out of LEGO e.g. keeping balance, hollow insides to save on using bricks, waterproofing etc.
