Description

Documentary that traces the roots of the striptease-based, live entertainment show, known as burlesque. Taking its form from the variety halls of the Victorian age, burlesque gained widespread popularity through the fame of exponents such as Gypsy Rose Lee, Blaze Starr and Mae West. The programme not only looks at the entertainment's golden age, but shows how Hollywood adapted some of its elements to create a new genre of film based on the 'all-woman' role models of burlesque theatre.
