The Qawwali ceremony is a programme of Sufi music which has developed in India and Pakistan since the 13th century; it is characterised by its ecstatic, trance-like blend of intense singing, fast rhythmic clapping, percussion, the hand-pumped harmonium and the tabla. Here it is performed in its customary and ceremonial form by L'ensemble Mehr et Sher Ali at the Festival de L'Imaginaire in Paris.
