November 1956, and the quiet seaside town of Barnmouth should be hiber- nating from its summer excesses. The town, and the National Counties Bank in particular, may be unlikely places of controversy, but death, financial duplicity and family concerns are about to throw the life of branch manager David Goodhart into turmoil. Customers and staff are drawn into a spider's web of intrigue, while the manager's personal problems compound matters.
