Premiered at the 2002 Toronto Film Festival, this biopic drama directed by Kwak Kyung-Taek charts the life of Korean legend boxer Kim Deuk-gu (Yu Oh-Seong), who rose from a background of poverty on the streets of Seoul to become Korea's national lightweight champion and win the Asia-Pacific Championship. He was later fatally injured in the ring in the 14th round of his match with world champion Ray Mancini in Las Vegas in November 1982, when he collapsed into a coma and died shorty afterwards. The film shows the pressures on Deuk-gu and his family and girlfriend as he gains prominence in a tough and unforgiving industry.
