In 1670, the Carolina Colony crowned Charles' Town the capital city, and since then Charleston has enjoyed a colorful and turbulent history. Though Charleston endured devastation in the Revolutionary and Civil wars, fires, hurricanes, and even earthquakes, it remains one of the most beautiful cities in the South.
