Jonathan Agnew was raised on a farm in Lincolnshire and attended Uppingham School before becoming a professional cricketer. He made his debut for Leicestershire in 1978 and represented England in three Tests and three One-Day Internationals in 1984-85. Despite being one of the country's most consistent wicket-takers, Agnew was continuously overlooked by the selectors and, in frustration, retired in 1990 to become the cricket correspondent of Todaynewspaper.
Agnew became BBC cricket correspondent in 1991. He was voted 'Best Radio Reporter' in 1992, and has published two books. This is his sixth year as Editor of the Cricket Year.
He has two daughters from a previous marriage and now lives with his wife, Emma, two stepchildren and two labradors, Curtly and Klusener, in rural Leicestershire.
