September 11 is a date etched into the history of a century. It is also the anniversary of an event from the previous century - General Pinochet's coup in 1973 against the democratically elected government of President Salvador Allende. The terror of this US-backed coup lasted 17 years. Following September 11, 2001, when American hands held up photos of missing loved ones, Chilean author Ariel Dorfman commented, I have been through this before. During the last 28 years, September 11 has been a date of mourning for that day when death irrevocably entered our lives.''
