William Trevor's Collected Stories was published by Viking in 1992, and has remained constantly in print as a Penguin paperback. Since then Trevor has published four highly acclaimed new collections of stories: After Rain, The Hill Bachelors, A Bit on the Side and Cheating at Canasta. These stories have now been gathered together with those in the 1992 book to make two handsome volumes which thus together contain the complete shorter fiction of a writer whom John Banville has called 'the greatest living writer of short stories'.
