In the first title, Amy and her mother are in a fierce trailer accidentafter rescuing an abandoned horse. Amy's mother is killedimmediately, and Amy is rushed to hospital in a serious conditionwhile the horse is sent to a local vet. When Amy wakes from hercoma, she must face returning to life at the stable without hermother. She cowers in her room after returning from the hospital,denying the comfort she could find in the familiar smell of grainand the welcoming nickers of the horse. Not until a pony fallsterribly ill does Amy consider her mother's absolute commitmentto horses; then she realises it is her own deepest passion as well.
