Following an earlier volume covering the years 1890-1930, this book provides a wide coverage of the major international events between the onset of the Great Depression to the building of the Berlin Wall. There are chapters on the road to war, civilian experience of total war, military conflict in Europe and the Pacific, the Cold War and the growth of international co-operation via the United Nations Organization. Other topics discussed include the growth of communism in Eastern Europe, and the use of atomic weapons in war and diplomacy.;The book is designed to fit in with the requirements of the Scottish Standard Grade.
