Description

Documentary charting the rise to prominence of Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. The programme follows his journey from living in self-confessed poverty to being considered one of the best footballers of his generation. Starting at an amateur youth team in Portugal where his father was the kitman, Ronaldo later joined Sporting Lisbon's Academia Sporting where he graduated to the first team and caught the eye of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. After six trophy-laden years in Manchester, Ronaldo became the most expensive player in the world when he joined the galácticos of Real Madrid for 80 million pounds in 2009. In addition to documenting his record-breaking footballing achievements, the programme also highlights less discussed aspects of his personal life such as his charity work and family life.
