Description

Amalie Dahl's 'Breaking/Building Habits' explores the relation between composition and improvisation in the creative aspects as well as in a live situation. The project's starting point was for Amalie to try to compose in new ways. First step was creating a new group with 3 musicians she had not played with before, and a unique instrumentation. A goal was to be able to imagine new sounds and to fusion her improvised and composed vocabulary. The starting point for most of the compositions is made on the saxophone, going back and forth between improvising and composing, trying to create phrases and music not yet composed, and bringing this approach to the rehersals as well as the concerts.
