This year, the organisers removed two stages making the course shorter by a few hundred kilometres and more intense with the remaining stages being made more varied. The itinerary for assistance vehicles was also reduced by approximately 40%, which meant that on the ground, the best drivers had to show their worth via their navigating ability rather than by the performance of their vehicles.
