Description

Documentary on the great Russian emigre choreographer, George Balanchine, who revolutionised American ballet in the 20th century, freeing it from the classical strictures of the previous century. A friend of some of the great artists of his era, from composer Igor Stravinsky to poet W.H. Auden, Balanchine's story is told through interviews with six of the dancers who worked with him and features footage of some of the works he choreographed. Mary Ellen Moylan, Maria Tallchief, Melissa Hayden, Allegra Kent, Merrill Ashley and Darci Kistler are the six ballerinas who are keeping Balanchine's work alive.
