Until the 16-bit days of the SNES and Megadrive, a game of pinball meant saving your coinage and taking a walk down to the local arcades.

Digital Illusions made pinball in the home an inexpensive reality, thanks to home PC's and consoles.

Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies set the benchmark for home pinball simulators, with a series of excellently themed tables and decent ball physics.

Technological advances meant that the recreation of 3D tables was now possible, and has become the standard across games of this genre, as shown in True Pinball for PlayStation. While not a true 3D game, True Pinball does give the presentation of an isometric view - the view that you would see in reality.

Those of you more familiar with 2D scrolling tables can use this point of view.

It's a personal preference.

Once you are happy with the set-up of the game, you must choose from one of four tables, each with unique themes, including the "Weapons of Justice" and "Vikings" tables, each coming with their own groovy sound track.

Attention to detail has been put high on the list of priorities for the developers; not to mention ball physics.

Multi-ball challenges may well have up to six balls on the table at any one time. True Pinball is an appropriate title for this accurate simulation.

However, as realistic as this game is, there is nothing more frustrating than to see the ball pass down the gutter of the table, knowing there's not a thing you could have done about it.
