El ao del verano que nunca llego / The Year of the Summer that Never Arrived - William Ospina

Me sorprendi que la erupcin de un volcn a mediados de 1815, en Indonesia, hubiera sido una de las causas eficientes del nacimiento en Occidente de la moderna leyenda del vampiro y de la pesadilla del ser viviente hecho con fragmentos de cadveres. Sent el extrao agrado de ver cmo se unan en una sola historia, que yo presenta vagamente, las vidas de Byron y Shelley con la catstrofe de una erupcin volcnica en los mares del sur, con un tsunami en las costas de Bali, con esa nube de azufre y ceniza y cristales volcnicos que ennegreci el cielo de la pennsula de Indochina y que los monzones se fueron llevando hacia el norte, desatando el clera en la India y ahogando muchedumbres en las inundaciones del Yangts y del ro Amarillo. Aquella historia una cosas extremas, abarcaba medio mundo, conjugaba fenmenos geolgicos y meteorolgicos con hechos histricos, personajes literarios y criaturas fantsticas. Algo nos hace pensar que este maravilloso libro, como la criatura Frankenstein, no tuvo infancia, pero tambin, como el seor vampiro, est fuera del tiempo ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Excerpt : "It surprised me that the eruption of an Indonesian volcano in 1815 would be one of the contributing causes of the birth in the West of the modern vampire legend, and of the nightmarish living being made of fragments of cadavers.
