The text and illustrations contain historical, anatomical and evolutionary-related data.;The 1st section, evolution and biology, will cover in detail the origins of elephants and will include a detailed study of Asian and African elephants and the differences between the two. The 2nd section, behaviour and environment, will include information on feeding habits, social behaviour, reproduction and migration. In the 3rd section, elephants and humans, the authors will look at the associations humans have had with elephants and how this has been represented in art, literature, mythology and religion. Lastly, in conservation and management, human impact on the species will be examined, covering such topics as trade in elephants and conservation strategies.
