Double-bill directed by Jim Hanon, one drama, one documentary, based on real events that took place in Ecuador in the mid-1950s. In 'End of the Spear' (2005), when a group of five young Christian missionaries set out into the Ecuadorian jungle to convert the Waodani tribe - the most violent society ever recorded by anthropologists - they are speared to death by the tribespeople, who believe that all strangers are cannibals. The wives of the dead missionaries then follow in their husbands' footsteps and manage to connect with the Waodani and find forgiveness. 'Beyond the Gates of Splendor' (2002), is the documentary account of the deaths of the five missionaries, with the film also tracing the reconciliation process that followed the killings, during which members of the families of the martyred men went to live alongside the Waodani.
