Part 4, Failure of Engineering Metals, introduces the basics of fracture mechanisms in materials and the concepts of metal fatigue. It aims to provide you with the tools for analysing structures and shows, through examples, how failures can be traced through to errors in design, manufacture or operation. Part 5, Creep, introduces the concept of creep as a failure mechanism, describes the general mechanisms in a variety of materials, investigates different methods of limiting or preventing creep and aims to illustrate the use of creep data during the design process.
