Exhibition Road - Andrew Brighton

This book is based on a painting exhibition held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Royal College of Art in London.;It is revealed that since the turn of the century the college's painting school has been a major force in the development of modern British art. This retrospective exhibition displays the work of past teachers and students who have become some of Britain's noted artists - Paul Nash, Edward Burra, John Piper, Bridget Riley, Peter Blake, David Hockney, R.B.Kitaj and Francis Bacon.;The book comprises short narrative chapters on the painting school and its role in British art. Each artist will be represented by two paintings, a student work and another done in mature years providing a juxtaposition which will permit an insight into the painter's development.;A special feature of the book will be 10 interviews, each accompanied by a full-page portrait photograph taken by Lord Snowdon.;The text is in the form of essays written by Andrew Brighton, Richard Cork, Christopher Frayling, Marco Livingstone, Lynda Morris and Bryan Robertson.
