Written in two parts this book is an account of what happens when someone brought up in the rigid environment of the Catholic Church suddenly loses his faith.;Part one is Dana Harvey's biography of Reg Atkinson's early life. Trying to survive in an atmosphere of religious fervour which he could not understand and dared not question, Reg became an intense, sensitive and fearful child. His disillusionment began at the age of three and progressed through his formative years: his spell in a seminary which almost destroyed his self respect; his overwhelming guilt when he reached puberty, and his first international quest to explain the glaring contradictions of the Catholic Church.;Part two of the book is written by Reg himself. In it he poses the questions the Church forbade him to ask and shares his findings with the reader - the discovery of a principle which explains man's basic nature and the Church's role in the development of the infrastructures by which we live.
