This is the first of two volumes which explore educational issues. Together they explain educational theory, analyze curriculum, the educational system and its finance and examine the influence of family, neighbourhood and media on the child. They include both key published extracts and specially commissioned new articles and are an Open University Reader for Course E208, "Exploring Educational Issues". Volume 1 focuses on the family and school relationship. The work should be of interest to all those taking introductory and interdisciplinary courses in colleges, universities and departments of education.
