First shapes in buildings - Penny Ann Lane

This shapes book with a difference features 12 buildings or structures from around the world. Each double-page spread is devoted to one shape and both two- and three-dimensional shapes eg circle, square, rectangle, cube, pyramid and cylinder, are included. Each shape is illustrated in its simple geometric form on one side of the spread, and opposite it is a full-colour photograph of a building or structure that incorporates that shape. Simple text on each spread explains an aspect of the structure and invites children to look at the building and imagine what it might be like to be in it or what the people who built it felt about it. This inventive and intriguing approach not only reinforces the learning of everyday shapes, but will inspire children to appreciate some of the world's great buildings and the everyday built environment around them. It is written by a highly experienced nursery teacher who is passionate about architecture and understanding the built environment.
