Description

All-singing, all-dancing Rodgers and Hammerstein musical set in San Francisco's Chinatown. Highlighting the culture-gap between the old-world Chinese and their westernised counterparts, Mei Li (Miyoshi Umeki) and her grandfather (Kam Tong) smuggle themselves into America in order that Mei Li can fulfil her arranged marriage to nightclub owner Sammy Fong (Jack Soo). Things are not that easy, though, as Sammy is already in love with resident floorfiller Linda Low (Nancy Kwan) who in turn is seeing businessman Wang Ta (James Shigeta). Events take a further twist, however, when Mei Li begins to fall for Wang Ta, much to the disgust of her grandfather.
