Even though it is five years since Peter died, Myfanwy still has memories of their time together playing constantly in her head. By choice, she leads a solitary life in their beach cabin on the Welsh coast, her only social contact with cousin Idris and his large and exuberant family. Myfanwy is not unhappy - more emotionally numb.

David's determined efforts to seduce Myfanwy are foiled initially with comic effect, but do eventually succeed. Both are stuck in their pasts.
