Vashti Berry joined the Dartington Unit in 2001 afterworking on the Equal Opportunities Policy Team at NorthamptonshireCounty Council. Prior to this she was an academic tutor at theUniversity of Natal in Durban, South Africa. She is studying for aPhD on the differential effects of domestic violence and childabuse on children's development, and working on a randomallocation evaluation of a programme for young people who displayantisocial behaviour. She has completed a small-scale study ofasylum-seeking and refugee children and families in Ireland andco-authored best practice papers on user involvement and pre-schoolfamily support facilities.
Michael Little Building on an established researchcentre, Michael is co-founder with Roger Bullock of a collection ofresearch, development and dissemination activities known as theWarren House Group at Dartington. At the University ofChicago's Chapin Hall Center for Children he leads a study ofchild development in the context of residential education. Anacknowledged expert on child protection, out of home care and youthjustice Michael has also supported efforts to improve internationalnetworks of policy makers, managers, researchers and practitionersworking with children in need. He holds appointments at theUniversities of Bath and Chicago and is the author/joint author of15 books and eight practice tools aimed at helping put researchinto practice.
Louise Morpeth moved to Dartington in 1997 after workingfor four years as a community health development co-ordinator withNorth Staffordshire Health Authority. She was jointly responsiblefor a Department of Health study on patterns of need and serviceuse among children living in the community and has been involved indesigning, implementing and evaluating new interventions, usingneed data gathered using Matching Needs and Services in arural district in England. She has co-authored several practicetools aimed at getting research into practice, and in 2004completed a PhD on the effects of the organisation ofchildren's services on outcomes for children in need.
