The film tells Gallagher's life story from his upbringing in Cork and his early days with a showband to the brief success of Taste and on to his successful solo career, his escalating health problems in later life and his tragic death at the age of just 47. The film includes archive interviews with Gallagher and those who knew him, including his brother, Donal, Bob Geldof, The Edge, Cameron Crowe, Slash, Johnny Marr, Bill Wyman, Martin Carthy and band members Ted McKenna and Gerry McAvoy.
