GCSE geography for Avery Hill - Andy Owen

GCSE Geography for Avery Hill is an exciting and motivating new course that develops the skills required to achieve exam success for the OCR/WJEC GCSE 'B' specification. It is written by experienced Avery Hill teachers and a senior examiner. The course explores the relationships between places, processes and people to facilitate a thorough understanding of contemporary issues, such as sustainability, interdependence and globalisation. Each unit contains features written especially to reflect the structure of assessment and requirements of the exam:

- Graded, skill-building activities using real-place data, maps, photographs, and ICT resources to provide thorough practice in gathering, refining, analysing and evaluating information for investigative purposes.

- Integrated use of case studies for selected MEDC and LEDC locations such as Iceland, Mali, Costa Rica and the UK and other areas to highlight concepts or issues. Locations are revisited to help build knowledge of specific parts of the world.

- Examination technique boxes to focus on how to answer standard exam questions, such as describing a distribution, comparing a pair of graphs and using map skills.

- A chapter focusing on problem-solving exercises.

- ICT opportunities for personalised learning and assessment using the CD-ROM.
