Grass - Camilla Nightingale

Sixteen-year-old Caryn witnesses a savage attack on an Asian boy by a white gang. She is seen and threatened by the gang leader and warned to keep her mouth shut. Grassing is not the done thing and Caryn has other things on her mind but as Kobir, the victim, fights for life and later dies she can't avoid being involved. She too is attacked by the gang but it is an attack on her baby brother that leads her to fight back. She is shocked to discover that her boyfriend is a member of the gang and has been going out with her simply to keep an eye on her. The story moves towards a dramatic climax and to Caryn learning to trust her own judgement of right and wrong.
