Held in high regard as a strong platformer from Midway, Haven: Call of the King has received a great deal of press and hype. And perhaps it's with good reason, because Haven is one of developer Traveller's Tales' most diverse and ambitious projects to date.
Haven tells the tale of a young hero who embarks upon an epic journey to free his slaved people from a formidable and evil lord, Vetch. But crossing a few platforms, defeating a few foes, and searching for the occasional collectible wont take you to the end of your quest.
Haven is in fact, much more than a platform game. Thanks to the T-Total game engine, multiple game genres have been seamlessly integrated into one epic adventure. There's platforming, turret-based shooting, boat racing, land racing, arena combat, space exploration and even interplanetary dogfights.
To accommodate such a vast selection of game styles, the worlds themselves are significantly larger than those seen in rival adventure games. Designed by a team of accomplished world renowned artists, unique areas such as the Virescent Mines, Exarco Reservoir and Lord Vetch's Spaceship look gorgeous, and the PlayStation 2 does a fine job of putting it all together.
At face value, Haven looks like your average run-of-the-mill platform adventure, but the more you play, the more you'll become completely taken in by its remarkable gameplay and variety.
