One of his daughters was doing bookbinding, much in vogue in London society. She remarked that, as it rained on St. Swithun's day, the 15th, it would be a wet season, according to an old superstition. About ten O'clock they took me to a little party at Lady Frederick Cavendish's on Carlton House Terrace at her request. Lord Frederick Cavendish is a younger son of the pres ent Duke Of Devonshire and brother Of Lord Hartington. (lord Frederick was afterwards assassinated at Phoenix Park in I had a letter to him from my father, who had entertained him and Lord Hartington in the United States in the sixties.
