Hybrid imagery - April Greiman

During the 1980s, April Greiman emerged as the most important and influential graphic designer in the USA. Her work - often breaking new ground through technology, particularly video and the Macintosh computer - exploits electronic collaging, the possibility of combining and manipulating images and type from different sources. The results can be seen in many posters for major American museums, magazines - including the famous nude self-portrait, produced entirely on a Mac, for Design Quarterly - video work for clients such as Esprit and the Society for Typographic arts, architectural signage systems, and even furiture design. She has also been an important teacher, first in Philadelphia, then at the California Institue of the Arts. Hybrid Imagery, written and designed by Greiman herself, documents the work, detailing the process behind the final design. Imagery and text work together to demonstrate the evolution of Greiman's image-making techniques.
