Description

One of the PC's most anticipated games of 2001, Activision's Return to Castle Wolfenstein proved there was some life left in the old shoot-em-up. Two years on, the company has now released an Extended Edition of the game, which also includes the ill-fated team-based multiplayer expansion, Enemy Territory.

As in the original Wolfenstein 3D, the game that - along with Doom - invented the first-person shooter genre, players assume the role of William J 'BJ' Blazkowicz, the Allies' bad boy of Second World War espionage. The fate of the free world hangs in the balance as BJ battles against the sadistic machinations of a Nazi war machine bent on world domination.

This latest sequel reflects the same over-the-top comic book style of the original Wolfenstein. However, by using the graphics technology of the Quake 3 engine, Return to Castle Wolfenstein pulls the player further into a chilling storyline filled with frightening tales of bio-engineering and the occult. Devotees of multi-player action will be able to get online and frag it out within the unique Wolfenstein world.

Enemy Territory is a different story. A popular expansion Stateside, Enemy Territory failed to make it to European shores when it was finished in mid-2003, thus making this package a true bonus for RTCW lovers. Enemy Territory is at heart a team-based multi-player offering in which players wield the usual arsenal of weapons and engage in some frenetic battles with other players. There is a variety of game modes and a broad range of multiplayer maps to get to grips with. Come on Wolfenstein fans, you know the drill.
