Chris Taylor is a grieving parent struggling to find security in a florist shop in London, who takes in a runaway teenager. Every indication is that Chris is a middle-aged woman but in the last quarter of the book she is revealed to be India's father who has become a transgender woman. Though reunited they must find a way to resolve deep seated tensions.
