Part I International Legal System and Human Rights is an overview of the nature of modern international law, the United Nations system and its relationship with modern human rights law. Part II The International Bill of Rights considers in depth the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.;Part III Regional Protection of Human Rights considers the role of regional human rights' organisations in Europe, the Americas and Africa. Part IV Group Rights analyses the rights of individuals within various groups in the areas of racial and religious discrimination, and as minorities, indigenous peoples, women and children. Part V Crimes Against the Dignity of Mankind analyses human rights' violations in the form of torture and international terrorism. Appendix I provides Sources and Further Research in Human Rights. Appendix II provides the Status of the Ratification of the Principal International and Regional Human Rights Treaties. The simple and straightforward analysis in this book will provide a useful text for undergraduate (LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) courses in international human rights law and international relations. The book will also assist practitioners in gaining a basic understanding of the practices and procedures of international human rights law. Javaid Rehman, LLB (Hons), LLM, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Leeds.;He is a member of the International Law Association and a member of the UK Branch of the Committee on International Law and Islamic Law. He has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Maine (France), Louisville (United States), Kagawa (Japan) and Peshawar (Pakistan).
