The Minister of Defence is blown apart by a car bomb right in front of DCI Ned Bale. The security cameras are disabled. No one sees the bomber come and go. No one claims responsibility. No one can determine the reason for the crime. Bale's investigation is stymied by intelligence agencies and countless false leads. Increasingly isolated and vulnerable, his love and greatest ally, police dog handler Kate Baker, is on attachment to British forces in Afghanistan; searching for roadside bombs with her sniffer dog. But Ned's world is turned upside down by one, solitary clue. Forensics find a fingerprint on a fragment of the bomb's trigger device: Kate's fingerprint. Now Ned can trust no one - he is no longer the hunter, but the hunted.
