This book introduces the notion of transition as a structural change in the social and material organization of the economic and political life of a whole society brought about by the development of industrial capitalism. The book also introduces some of the key processes involved in the transition to industrial capitalism; some of the key conceptual tools from politics and economics for understanding these processes; and illustrates some important processes of transition with reference to key historical examples.
